Della Harris is a singer, songwriter, wife and mother, born in the heart of rural Victoria and now living in Melbourne raising her family. She’s a story teller - her authentic stories come from real life and resonate happily with her audiences.
Della loves performing and touring and has been doing so for most of her life, but it’s only been in recent years that her passion and desire to tell her own story has led her into her own original career. Her love for the story, the song and the performance coupled with an absolute burning desire to perform her own material has been the turning point in an already exciting career in music. ‘It has been quite an emotional journey finding my own voice – I feel like I have something worthwhile to share, an interesting life story to tell and my music is the vehicle for that’ says Della.
Recent highlights include performing at major music festivals around Australia, winning the emerging artist guest spot on the Taste of Tamworth Tour, as well as working with music legends like Badlove’s Michael Spiby, and supporting Jon Stevens from Noiseworks.
In May this year Della released her single and supporting music clip ‘My Turn Now’. Prompted by sitting in a doctor’s waiting room supporting her elderly mother, this is a poignant song dealing with how as our parent’s age, it is our opportunity to turn the tide and be more active in the care for them. It really resonated with audiences everywhere achieving great charting success all around the country including a Country Tracks Top 40 position at #6 and remaining in the charts for over 10 weeks.
‘I know people really relate with my personal story shared in the song and music clip which features heartwarming photos of myself and my own mother as the years have gone by. ‘It’s time to start giving back, honouring the people in our lives who raised us and cared for us. I know it’s something that is important to many people and we should be talking about it more. What better way to open the discussion than to sing a song’ reflects Della.
‘My Turn Now’ recently won the National Country Album of the Year at the 2018 Tasmanian Independent Country Music Awards, and following this success Della is releasing her new single ‘Long As You’re Lonely’ to radio in October. This new song has already been added to the hugely popular Spotify Fresh Country Playlist and is gaining her new fans across the world.
‘Long as You’re Lonely’ is about those times in a relationship when you have to endure distance and time apart. It’s about trusting that it’s going to be OK because as long as you are both missing each other, you know the relationship will remain strong, and that reunion will be great’ Della laughs.
Her songs and her heart are touching people. Merelyn Carter from Carter & Carter reflects, ‘We first met Della when she attended a song writing retreat in 2017, and it immediately became obvious that there is a lot more depth to her than first meets the eye. She is obviously a seasoned performer and lover of music, but what really shines through when you get to know her and her music is her genuine love for people and life. She approaches everything she does with determination and professionalism and within these qualities lies a heart that desires to tell her story. A story which has maturity and life experience to draw from, which then provides the platform to take the listener willingly into their own journey.’
There are exciting times ahead for Della Harris – we invite you to share her journey!
